University of California, San Francisco

Kira Poskanzer is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biochemistry & Biophysics at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Dr. Poskanzer received her undergraduate degree at Brown University, and her PhD in Neuroscience at UCSF. She did her postdoctoral fellowship at Columbia University. She has received prestigious training awards, including the Revson Senior Fellowship in Life Sciences, the Patternson Trust Fellowship in Brain Circuitry, and the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship. Dr. Poskanzer has numerous publications, including several in Nature, Neuron, Nature, and PNAS. Her lab studies neuron-astrocyte interactions in the mammalian cerebral cortex at the cellular and circuit levels using advanced optical techniques. Current projects include: cellular mechanisms of astrocyte activation using photo-activation and multiphoton imaging, simultaneous population imaging of cortical neurons and astrocytes in vivo, and astrocytic control of cortical oscillations.
